Day 12: Afraid Of Heights

B2A FOR IMPACT TRAINING
“OUR BOARD IS AFRAID OF HEIGHTS!” What a great line from Marcella when we were talking about BOARDS and ALTITUDE.
I realize now, in retrospect and after reflection, that this ‘BOARD THING’ was a big deal. Here are some thoughts ON BOARDS (in Ireland).
- Granted, the current ‘culture’ is not the best when it comes to development and raising more money. You need to acknowledge that it’s not a whole lot different in the ‘States’.
- If it were me, I really wouldn’t worry about your Board members as ‘PROSPECTS’.
- At the same time, I would strongly encourage you to talk with every Board member about their interest and role.
- Remember that your ‘BOARD’ is nothing but a collective mob. It is so much better and easier to deal with individual Board members than the mob.
- CHAMPIONS are the key. They could be on the Board, but they don’t have to be on the Board.
- Individual Board members can help you before the visit, during the visit and after the visit.
*However, they obviously must be ON BOARD.
I’d encourage you to remember Stuart’s wonderful thoughts at the end of the two days regarding timing and change. His comment about “everything happens for a reason” should provide strong encouragement that maybe this is the perfect time to RE-THINK YOUR BOARD.
WHAT IF… in the next 30 days, you met with every Board member to:
- Share the new way you’re Presenting Your Message.
- Talk about the Vision and Plan to Scale & Grow.
- Show them the new Model and Methodology around fundraising and development.
- And, get feedback on the Plan.
Then, I think it’s fairly simple to talk about the ROLE of the Board, ALTITUDE, FRAMEWORK, etc.
What’s the worst that can happen??? Almost all of your Boards are providing little positive help at the moment. They don’t raise any Euros. And they don’t give any money. And, they are at 3” on our Altitude Framework! And, they’re afraid of heights!
