Day 11: You Run Your Business

B2A FOR IMPACT TRAINING
This is tied to yesterday’s challenge of running your organization as a business.
I heard this 20+ years ago at an INC. conference and I’ve never forgotten it.
You run your business… your business doesn’t run you.
Here’s what I hope this means to you. If you are the leader or executive director or president or in any senior leadership position, you need to take to heart the idea that you are running your organization (not the other way around). If you find yourself overwhelmed, stressed, unable to get your most important priorities and projects done, can’t focus on the big stuff… then your organization is actually running you.
Fix it. You are in charge.
I believe this principle works just as well if you are director of advancement, director of development or a team leader of any group of people within your organization.
You run your organization. It doesn’t run you.
