Jay’s 5 Rules (for Outstanding Fundraising)

Tom Suddes | December 4, 2008

Jay Lowden, Vice President of Development at the YMCA’s in the Pikes Peak Region, just received the ‘OUTSTANDING SUPERSTAR’ award from Colorado Springs AFP. It was well deserved.

During his acceptance, he shared these 5 Rules. If you’re a For Impact follower, you’ll know right away why I LOVE these ‘RULES’. Jay’s rules in bold. My notes in (parenthesis).

  1. IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MISSION.

(Support the Mission. Talk about the Impact. )

  2. RELATIONSHIPS ARE CRITICAL.

(Maximize the Relationship… at this Given Moment.)

  3. TELL YOUR STORY!

(Jay added that if a picture is worth a thousand words, a story is worth a thousand pictures.)

  4. ASK FOR THE GIFT!

(Jay added to ASK for the Right Thing at the Right Time with the Right Person.)

  5. USE OLD-FASHIONED MANNERS.

(My mom would really appreciate this. She and Jay are all about ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.)

You can go an awful long way with these 5 RULES.
